The BIF days program is held in English, with a maximum of 10 participants. The program involves 11 hours of workshops, a panel discussion, two jams, a rehearsal observation, fun activities and tickets to any of the shows of IMPRO 2020.

Location: Jugendkulturzentrum Pumpe, Lützowstraße 42

BIF days: Hard topics
with John Gebretatose (USA)

John Gebretatose

In this workshop, we will highlight what happens to us as performers when a scene becomes scary, offensive or insensitive and we freeze or lose ourselves. We explore some approaches to get agency back when we find ourselves somewhere uncomfortable, tools for improvising mindfully and finding a proactive voice for you and your show.

Trigger and content warning: this class is based on scenes when you find yourself dealing with topics of race or socially and politically charged situations - which means it will include discussions and scenes dealing with race, gender and other very personally sensitive areas and how to move forward thoughtfully, respectfully and meaningfully when you find yourself there.

John Gebretatose is an international impro powerhouse, coaching teams, holding impro workshops in theaters, hospitals, corporate workspaces, and schools. He is a HUGE Improv Theater instructor and is also the Director of Diversity and Inclusion. He has led and facilitated diversity and inclusion programming for impro theaters all over the world with a mission of uplifting all voices. He trained and worked at the Brave New Workshop and has been performing in the Twin Cities for over 10 years.

John is a founding member of Blackout Improv. He is the co-founder of the Black and Funny Improv Festival and one of the founding members of the sketch comedy show Late Nights Minneapolis.

LEVEL: participants with at least 3 years of impro experience, who rehearse and/or take workshops on a regular basis.
