The Documentary

directed by Chris Mead

A fully improvised documentary where the audience get to choose the subject matter. Would you like to see an investigation into the running of a Cat Café? Or a village that puts on a cheese sculpting contest every year? Perhaps you’d like to follow a troupe of mimes or a street art collective? Through interviews and scene work, we’ll take you into a world of obsession, power, betrayal and hobbycraft.

Baba Tales

directed by Raschid Daniel Sidgi

My daughter calls me Baba. Just like I called my father. He was not always an easy man. Very intense and often challenging. He grew up in a small town on the edge of the desert, on the edge of the savannah, where there were only a handful of telephones but a cinema…

We had sweet tea with milk on Sunday afternoons, and the television, which was always blaring, was turned off. We, brothers and sisters braided pigtails, squatted close together like a bunch of young baboons and my father told stories. Actually, he made them up. He was a great storyteller, wild and impetuous his words seemed to float on a river, yet always found a destination.

Baba often fished in the now, linking the world we knew growing up in Europe with the treasures of our East African ancestors. And even though in many ways we seemed so far apart, in his stories the worlds moved closer together.

Stories full of life and magic, death and happiness, love and chaos, spirits, people and animals. With all players engaged in creation all the time, the show BABA TALES searches for his storytelling on stage.

Reincarnations

directed by Bala V

Qi, Prana, Energy, Life Force – every culture has a different name for it, but we all intuitively know what it’s about; it is the essence that makes up everything around us. Isn’t it fascinating that we’re all made up of the same stuff, yet each form looks so different?

»Reincarnations« is a show that delves into the previous ‘lives’ or ‘births’ of various people, animals and things, and explores the meandering path that these particular collections of molecules have taken to attain their current form.

Inspired by the narrative storytelling technique of Indian epics, seemingly unrelated stories will weave in and out of each other, forming a wonderful tapestry of intertwined stories, featuring unexpected twists arising from curses and boons. “Reincarnations” examines the popular belief of rebirth and reminds us that every ending is just another beginning.

Patchwork

directed by Gael Doorneweerd Perry

An improvised theatre show based on movement, the body and music! Inspired by things that the audience will share with us, the ensemble will play a series of scenes, creating a beautiful patchwork of characters, stories and feelings.

Improvision Songcontest

directed by Christoph Jungmann

One of the most successful and popular formats of our festival is the »Improvision Song Contest«.

It’s on you – of course – to decide what we sing and which country scores the most points for its beautifully improvised song.

Six singers from six countries compete with each other, using different genres, themes, dance and background singers.

Who captures your heart? Who makes you jump of the chair? Who do you want to WIN??

The twelve points go to…

The Room

directed by Paula Galimberti

This show is the world premiere of »The Room«, played by our talented cast of international improvisers.

It is the same hotel room but in different moments in time.

Different characters, periods, cultural conventions, relationships and stories, all co-exist in this one hotel room which has seen so much.

Spiked by magical realism this show will make all those different times share the space and tell the many stories of many lives. Stories and lives that echo and co-exist but hardly ever notice each other.

This show is the world premiere of »Human Nature«, played by our talented cast of international improvisers.

It’s a small town and the people live their lives as best as they can, each with their own story, each with their own fears, dreams and goals. They all strive to achieve something. Some do it continuously, others have no idea what motivates them, but they all go about their day carrying dreams, secrets and fears. Will they achieve their goals? Will they overcome their greatest fears? How will they affect and be affected by one another?

These intertwined stories create a mosaic of characters who tell us a story about the human nature.
